Prem Mittal won Mansa as an Akali Dal MLA in 2012, but in 2022 he crossed over to the BJP along with Captain Amarinder Singh. For decades, BJP has not fielded its own candidate from Mansa, preferring alliances or staying out of the fight altogether. As 2027 approaches, the question becomes unavoidable: Will BJP finally test the waters in Mansa by fielding Prem Mittal or continue to treat the seat as politically out of reach ? And can a leader who once won on an Akali Dal symbol persuade voters to back a party that has never stood on its own here ?
2012 में प्रेम मित्तल ने मानसा से अकाली दल के टिकट पर जीत हासिल की थी। लेकिन 2022 में वे कैप्टन अमरिंदर सिंह के साथ भाजपा में शामिल हो गए। दिलचस्प बात यह है कि दशकों से भाजपा ने मानसा से कभी अपने दम पर उम्मीदवार नहीं उतारा है, या तो गठबंधन किया गया, या फिर सीट से दूरी बनाए रखी गई। अब 2027 नज़दीक है, तो सवाल सीधा है, क्या भाजपा पहली बार मानसा में प्रेम मित्तल को उतारकर बड़ा जोखिम लेगी या फिर इस सीट को अब भी अपनी पहुंच से बाहर मानेगी ? और क्या अकाली दल के निशान पर जीत चुका नेता भाजपा के लिए वोट खींच पाएगा, जहां पार्टी की ज़मीनी मौजूदगी ही कमजोर रही है ?
Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind won three times on a Shiromani Akali Dal ticket, twice from Khadur Sahib and once from Baba Bakala. After switching to BJP in 2022, he lost the Assembly election from Baba Bakala and then the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Khadur Sahib. With 2027 in sight, BJP faces a clear dilemma. If Manna Mianwind is tested again, where does he really fit now, the seat he once won as an Akali or the seat he recently lost as a BJP candidate ? And does his past success still carry weight after the party switch ?
