The Congress has often criticised the BJP for centralised decision-making and a lack of internal democracy. Yet in Punjab, when the party's high command retained Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as PPCC Chief despite open resistance from former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and several senior leaders, dissent was brushed aside. As both the Congress and the BJP insist that their High Command's decisions are final, is there now any real difference between the two parties when it comes to internal democracy, or have both become equally centralised and intolerant of internal dissent ?

The Congress describes the Punjab crisis as an organisational disagreement, but the battle between Charanjit Singh Channi and Amarinder Singh Raja Warring appears to run much deeper. Behind the meetings, reshuffles and public displays of unity lies a larger struggle over political influence, organisational control and the race to become the party's face for the 2027 Assembly elections. If the Congress insists this is not about personal ambition, then what is really fueling the Channi–Warring tussle ?
