In the 2022 Assembly election, when Balluana broke its long Congress–Akali pattern, the BJP tried a new approach by fielding Vandana Sangwal, a first- time woman candidate from a farming family. She polled 39,720 votes (27.59%), emerging as a strong second behind AAP but still short of a breakthrough in a constituency where no major party had nominated a woman in the previous nine elections. 2022 polls left behind a sharper, lingering question: Was Vandana Sangwal’s performance an early signal that Balluana was opening up to new faces and gender representation or did the BJP merely benefit from the collapse of old equations without truly building a lasting base on the ground ?
2022 के विधानसभा चुनाव में, जब बल्लुआना ने कांग्रेस–अकाली दल के लंबे चले आ रहे पैटर्न को तोड़ा, तब भाजपा ने एक नया प्रयोग करते हुए किसान परिवार से आने वाली पहली बार की महिला उम्मीदवार वंदना सांगवाल को मैदान में उतारा। उन्होंने 39,720 मत (27.59%) हासिल किए और आम आदमी पार्टी के बाद मज़बूत दूसरे स्थान पर रहीं। यह परिणाम ऐसे निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में आया, जहाँ पिछले नौ चुनावों में किसी भी प्रमुख दल ने महिला उम्मीदवार को टिकट नहीं दिया था। 2022 के चुनाव एक अहम और असहज सवाल छोड़ गए हैं, क्या वंदना सांगवाल का प्रदर्शन इस बात का संकेत था कि बल्लुआना नए चेहरों और महिला प्रतिनिधित्व के लिए तैयार हो रहा है या फिर भाजपा को सिर्फ पुराने राजनीतिक समीकरणों के टूटने का लाभ मिला, बिना ज़मीन पर कोई स्थायी आधार बनाए ?
Harjot Kamal Singh built his political career in the Congress and won the Moga seat as an MLA in 2017. After being denied a Congress ticket in 2022, he joined the BJP and contested again from Moga, but the switch did not work electorally and he finished far behind the winner. The move raised questions about whether party change helped or hurt his standing on the ground. As Punjab moves toward 2027, a clear question now hangs over his political future: Did shifting to the BJP weaken Harjot Kamal Singh’s connect with Moga voters or can he still rebuild credibility after a failed transition ?
