With the Himachal Government under Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu raising vehicle entry fees from ₹70 to ₹170, BJP leaders including Avinash Rai Khanna and voices from Punjab have criticised the move as a burden on tourists, traders and transporters. However, with heavy tourist inflow from neighbouring states like Punjab and rising pressure on roads, waste management and local resources, the state maintains that higher user charges are unavoidable. Is the fee hike an anti-tourist step or a necessary cost-sharing measure for states that bear the load of mass tourism ?
हिमाचल प्रदेश की सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू सरकार द्वारा बाहरी वाहनों की एंट्री फीस ₹70 से बढ़ाकर ₹170 करने के फैसले पर भाजपा नेता अविनाश राय खन्ना और पंजाब के कई नेताओं ने इसे पर्यटकों, व्यापारियों और ट्रांसपोर्टरों पर अतिरिक्त बोझ बताया है। वहीं राज्य सरकार का कहना है कि पंजाब जैसे पड़ोसी राज्यों से भारी संख्या में आने वाले पर्यटकों के कारण सड़कों, कचरा प्रबंधन और स्थानीय संसाधनों पर बढ़ते दबाव को देखते हुए अधिक यूज़र चार्ज जरूरी हो गए हैं। क्या यह शुल्क वृद्धि पर्यटन के खिलाफ कदम है या उन राज्यों के लिए एक जरूरी लागत-साझेदारी मॉडल है जो बड़े पैमाने पर पर्यटन का बोझ उठाते हैं ?

But in a state where law and order has remained a complex challenge for every government, the claim has also sparked questions about political assurance versus ground reality. Is the promise of “no gunshots in six months” a serious security roadmap for Punjab or another high-decibel election line that will be tested against reality once power comes ?
