Nachhatar Pal won Nawanshahr as a BSP MLA with SAD–BSP support, polling over 37,000 votes and emerging as a key Dalit face. But his repeated presence on AAP stages, alongside Bhagwant Mann, at government launches, and close to leaders who already switched sides, has fuelled strong speculation. While he says it’s only about getting work done for his area, both BSP and SAD admit they are watching carefully.
नछत्तर पाल ने नवांशहर सीट अकाली दल–बीएसपी के समर्थन से बी.एस.पी. विधायक के रूप में जीती थी और 37,000 से अधिक मत लेकर एक मजबूत दलित चेहरा बनकर उभरे। लेकिन हाल के महीनों में उनकी लगातार आम आदमी पार्टी के मंचों पर मौजूदगी, मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान के साथ दिखाई देना, सरकारी कार्यक्रमों में मंच साझा करना और पहले से पार्टी बदल चुके नेताओं के करीब दिखना, अटकलों को हवा दे रहा है। नछत्तर पाल कहते हैं कि यह सब सिर्फ अपने क्षेत्र के काम के लिए सरकार से सहयोग लेने तक सीमित है, लेकिन बी.एस.पी. और अकाली दल दोनों मानते हैं कि वे हालात पर नज़र रखे हुए हैं।
Surjit Kaur’s short and confusing run in the Jalandhar West bypoll raised more questions than answers for the Shiromani Akali Dal. Picked by a rebel committee, later disowned by the party, briefly seen with AAP, and then publicly reaffirming her Akali identity, her campaign ended in defeat with just 1,242 votes. While SAD has tried to distance itself from the episode, the damage was visible. Looking ahead to 2027, can Akali Dal realistically rely on Surjit Kaur again or does the party need to field a clearer, stronger face to rebuild trust in Jalandhar West ?
