In Ludhiana East, Sanjay (Sanjeev) Talwar, who served as MLA from 2017 to 2022, could manage only 32,760 votes (22.67%) in the election, finishing a distant second as AAP surged ahead. For a sitting MLA just one term ago, the fall was steep. Was Talwar rejected by voters or did Congress fail to defend its own former MLA with organisation and direction ? And if a recent MLA couldn’t retain trust here, what does that signal for Congress’s chances in Ludhiana East by 2027 ?

In the 2022 elections, Congress chose Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki by sidelining its former MLA Angad Singh Saini, who then contested as an Independent and still polled more votes. Jhikki finished far behind, with just 6,998 votes (5.65%), while Saini crossed 31,000.
