With two-time MLA Chaudhary Mohan Lal Banga joining the Shiromani Akali Dal during the Bagha Purana rally led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, his return has again drawn attention to his long political journey across parties. After earlier serving as an Akali MLA, he later moved through BSP and Congress, joined the BJP in late 2021 and contested the 2022 Assembly elections on its ticket, before now returning to the Akali fold. His comeback also comes after Dr. Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi, who won the 2022 election on an Akali Dal ticket, defected to the Aam Aadmi Party in 2024 while continuing as the sitting MLA.
