Dinesh Singh Babbu, former three-time MLA from Sujanpur and Ex-Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, lost the 2022 assembly elections from Sujanpur. Despite this, BJP fielded him as their Lok Sabha candidate from Gurdaspur in 2024, marking the party’s first candidate from the constituency in 26 years. However, he lost the seat to Congress’s Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
