Charanjit Singh Channi’s rise to power in 2021 as Chief Minister was seen as a surprising political decision, especially when several senior leaders were considered stronger contenders and many within the party did not view him as the first choice. That decision was meant to create a new social and political narrative, but the 2022 elections turned into a major setback as Channi lost both Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur seats, raising serious questions about ground acceptance at a crucial moment. However, his comeback with a Lok Sabha victory in 2024 and his current role as an MP shows that he still holds relevance in Punjab politics. The question now is, does Charanjit Singh Channi’s journey from a surprise CM choice in 2021 to a double defeat in 2022 and then a parliamentary comeback in 2024 reflect resilience and revival, or does it highlight the limits of his acceptability as a long-term leadership option in Punjab ?
