The idea of industrial development in any state can be gauged from new industrial power connections in a state. Punjab, with 23 districts, has around 3,400 new industrial connections.
With the BJP still limited largely to urban pockets despite a record 18.56% vote share in 2024 and zero seats, the party’s Punjab strategy now seems to be moving in multiple directions at once. Outreach to deras, signals around Bikram Singh Majithia of the Shiromani Akali Dal, internal caution from leaders like Ravneet Singh Bittu, and hopes of anti-incumbency against AAP reflect a search for a workable rural entry point. Yet, weak grassroots presence, lingering farm protest distrust, and limited success in rural local body elections raise a core strategic question. What path will the BJP ultimately choose to expand in Punjab’s rural landscape ?
