With Anil Joshi gone from BJP, Amritsar North no longer has its old fixed centre, and that has reopened the race inside the party. Sukhminder Singh Pintu, who carried the BJP flag in the last election, remains a known face and stayed in the contest when the party was struggling for space. But being available and being the first choice are often two different things in politics. As 2027 approaches, the real question is whether BJP will reward loyalty and continuity by trusting Sukhminder Singh Pintu again, or whether his previous result may push the party to search for a bigger surname or fresher face. Is Pintu now the natural claimant for Amritsar North, or merely a placeholder until BJP decides on a stronger gamble ?
Prem Mittal once won Mansa as an Akali Dal MLA in 2012, but by 2022 he had shifted to BJP along with Captain Amarinder Singh, taking an old regional identity into a party that has rarely treated Mansa as its own battlefield. For years, BJP has depended on alliances or distance in this seat rather than direct investment. That makes Mittal’s presence politically interesting, but also uncertain. As 2027 approaches, the real question is whether BJP finally sees Prem Mittal as the face to open its independent account in Mansa, or whether even his switch cannot convince the party to risk a tough contest here. Can an old Akali winner become BJP’s new experiment, or is Mansa still a seat others fight while BJP watches ?
