Ravneet Bittu has been allocated the Food Processing ministry, will he be able to bring in any real change? Notably, this ministry was earlier held by Harsimrat Badal.
For decades, Jathedar Ajit Singh Kohar turned Shahkot and Lohian into a solid Akali fortress, five-time MLA, powerful Cabinet Minister, and district President for 31 years. After his passing in 2018, SAD tried to keep the Kohar legacy alive by putting forward his son Naib Singh Kohar in the 2018 bypoll. But Naib lost. Then in 2022, SAD fielded Bachitar Singh Kohar, who is Ajit Singh Kohar’s grandson, hoping that the third generation would revive the family’s political hold. But Bachitar also lost. Two elections. Two defeats. Two generations. So the real question is, has the Kohar legacy in Shahkot quietly ended, or can SAD continue to rely on family inheritance when voters have rejected both Naib Singh Kohar in 2018 and Bachitar Singh Kohar in 2022 ?

Harinder Pal Singh Chandumajra, son of senior Akali leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, became MLA from Sanaur in 2017 and was once seen as the next- generation face of the Chandumajra family. But after losing badly in the 2022 election, instead of staying inside SAD (Badal) to rebuild his base, both father and son walked out together and joined the rebel Akali Dal faction led by Giani Harpreet Singh. Now, with the rebel faction struggling for organisation, the main SAD regaining traction, and 2027 approaching fast, the real question is: did Harinder Pal Singh Chandumajra strengthen his future by joining the rebel Akali faction or has he stranded himself outside the main arena right when Punjab politics is heating up for 2027 ?
