Before the 2022 elections, the Aam Aadmi Party promised to eradicate drugs within months. Since taking power, the Bhagwant Mann Government has announced three more deadlines and launched the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” campaign, but all four deadlines have passed without the promised result. Now, the BJP has set its own target of making Punjab drug-free by December 31, 2029. After four missed deadlines, how many more promises will Punjab have to wait through before it sees real results ? Has the drug war become a battle of political deadlines rather than action on the ground ?
2022 के विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले आम आदमी पार्टी ने कुछ ही महीनों में पंजाब से नशे का खात्मा करने का वादा किया था। सत्ता में आने के बाद भगवंत मान सरकार ने तीन और समय-सीमाएं तय कीं और “युद्ध नशे के विरुद्ध” अभियान शुरू किया। लेकिन चारों समय-सीमाएं बीत गईं और वादा पूरा नहीं हुआ। अब भाजपा ने 31 दिसंबर 2029 तक पंजाब को नशामुक्त बनाने का लक्ष्य रखा है। चार समय-सीमाएं चूकने के बाद पंजाब को असली नतीजों के लिए और कितने वादों का इंतजार करना पड़ेगा ? क्या नशे के खिलाफ लड़ाई जमीन पर कार्रवाई के बजाय राजनीतिक समय-सीमाओं की दौड़ बन गई है ?
With the 2027 Punjab elections approaching, the Aam Aadmi Party faces questions over drugs, law and order, employee demands and its governance record. These issues could test the standing of its sitting MLAs and senior leaders as they prepare to seek another term. With anti-incumbency concerns and opposition attacks mounting, will Aam Aadmi Party leaders be able to secure their seats in 2027 or will voters make them answer for the gap between promises and performance ?
