From his days as an S.F.I. campus president at Punjabi University, Patiala to leading the Sangrur Bar Association, Harpal Singh Cheema built his political career brick by brick. He entered the Punjab Assembly in 2017, winning Dirba in a three-way fight, then rose to become Leader of the Opposition when AAP was still struggling for statewide relevance. In 2022, he didn’t just retain Dirba, he delivered one of AAP’s biggest victories, securing 82,630 votes (56.89%), and became a key cabinet minister in the Bhagwant Mann Government.

Adampur has mostly stayed between Congress and Akali Dal, and even in the 2022 AAP wave, Jit Lal Bhatti could not break that trend, finishing third with 28,947 votes. As 2027 approaches, the big question for AAP is simple: Will the party trust Jit Lal Bhatti with the Adampur ticket again or look for a stronger name to finally crack the seat ?
