Captain Amarinder Singh has said he gained “nothing” from his four years in the BJP and that the party did not consult him on Punjab. He has also ruled out returning to Congress and said his days of contesting elections are effectively over. That raises an uncomfortable question for both Captain and the BJP: If a former Punjab Chief Minister says he was barely used by his own party, does this expose the limits of BJP’s strategy of bringing in big political faces from other parties ?

The Enforcement Directorate has carried out searches in Punjab linked to an ongoing money-laundering investigation involving alleged financial and land- related irregularities. The investigation itself does not establish guilt. The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that the timing and use of central agencies are politically motivated. With the 2027 Punjab election approaching, the bigger question is: Will ED action become a major election issue in Punjab, or will the BJP have to convince voters that these are independent investigations rather than election-time politics ?
