But while his speeches shook stages, his record in Government didn’t shake anything on the ground. As Minister for Local Bodies, there was more controversy than progress. And when he was finally offered the Power Department, the very issue he used to thunder about, he refused to take charge.

ਨਵਜੋਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਗੂ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ, ਚਾਹੇ ਗੱਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਬਿਜਲੀ ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ, ਜਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਧਿਰ ਨੀਤੀ ਦੀ। ਪਰ ਜਿਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੰਚ ਹਿਲਾਇਆ, ਓਥੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਜ਼ਮੀਨੀ ਪੱਧਰ ’ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਖੇ। ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਵੱਧਿਆ, ਕਾਰਜ ਘੱਟ। ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਖੀਰ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਓਹੀ ਮਸਲਾ ਜਿਸ ’ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੀ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਹੁਦਾ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
