Kulwant Singh Keetu, son of two-time Barnala MLA Malkit Singh Keetu was fielded by the Shiromani Akali Dal from Barnala in the 2022 Assembly elections to revive the Keetu family’s political legacy. But despite his name recognition and organisational backing, he lost and secured only 27,178 votes, at a time when Barnala’s political mood was clearly shifting toward newer leadership styles. Will the Akali Dal still rely on Kulwant Singh Keetu to carry forward the old family mantle or will the party quietly look for someone with stronger current ground connect?
