In Dharamkot, the BJP has long stayed on the sidelines. In 2022, the party didn’t field any candidate at all. Now, with Shamsher Singh Rataul serving as BJP’s constituency in-charge, the spotlight shifts to intent versus readiness. As BJP claims it will contest all seats in Punjab, a blunt question follows. Is Dharamkot finally on the party’s map or is this still a seat where organisation exists on paper but not on the ballot ? And if 2027 is about presence, will BJP test the waters here or keep watching from the fence ?
धर्मकोट में भाजपा लंबे समय से किनारे ही रही है। 2022 में पार्टी ने यहां से कोई उम्मीदवार तक नहीं उतारा। अब शमशेर सिंह रटौल के हल्का इंचार्ज होने के बाद, सवाल इरादे और तैयारी का बनता है। जब भाजपा पंजाब की सभी सीटों पर लड़ने का दावा कर रही है, तो सीधा सवाल उठता है। क्या धर्मकोट अब सच में पार्टी के नक्शे पर है या संगठन सिर्फ काग़ज़ों तक सीमित है, मैदान में नहीं ? और अगर 2027 मौजूदगी की परीक्षा है, तो क्या भाजपा यहां उतरने की हिम्मत करेगी या दूर से ही देखती रहेगी ?
Satinder Pal Singh Tajpuri contested the 2022 Assembly election from Ludhiana South and secured 17,673 votes (16.76%), finishing well behind the winner. Two years later, he quit the BJP and joined the Congress in 2024, leaving the BJP without a clear local face in the constituency. In a seat known for strong personalities and shifting loyalties, does this move reflect Tajpuri’s personal political recalculation or does it expose BJP’s deeper struggle to build and retain leadership in urban Punjab ? And as 2027 approaches, who pays the bigger price here, the leader who switched sides or the party left without a ground-level contender ?
