Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar has been projecting the leadership of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah as the solution to Punjab’s security and governance problems. Yet recent political history raises a key question. In the last Assembly election, the BJP struggled to present a strong local face and tried to ride on the influence of Captain Amarinder Singh, but that experiment failed to excite voters. The much-discussed "Hindutva wave" that worked in states like Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand also failed to gain traction in Punjab, where many voters instead chose to test Arvind Kejriwal’s governance model focused on education, health, water and power.
पंजाब भाजपा प्रमुख सुनील कुमार जाखड़ लगातार यह कह रहे हैं कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और अमित शाह का नेतृत्व ही पंजाब की सुरक्षा और शासन संबंधी समस्याओं का समाधान कर सकता है। लेकिन हाल की राजनीतिक स्थिति एक अहम सवाल भी खड़ा करती है। पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में भाजपा मजबूत स्थानीय चेहरा पेश करने में संघर्ष करती दिखी और उसने कैप्टन अमरिंदर सिंह के प्रभाव पर सवारी करने की कोशिश की, लेकिन वह प्रयोग मतदाताओं को प्रभावित नहीं कर सका। जिन राज्यों जैसे उत्तर प्रदेश और उत्तराखंड में भाजपा को “हिंदुत्व लहर” का लाभ मिला, वह पंजाब में खास असर नहीं दिखा सकी। इसके विपरीत, कई मतदाताओं ने शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, पानी और बिजली जैसे मुद्दों पर आधारित अरविंद केजरीवाल के शासन मॉडल को परखने का विकल्प चुना।
Punjab BJP chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar has alleged that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the Indian National Congress are operating under a “mutually friendly pact”, claiming that the opposition has failed to hold the Government accountable on issues like drugs, law and order, and financial transparency. He also questioned whether Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa would raise key issues during the Budget session while pointing to Rahul Gandhi not directly criticising the state government during his recent Punjab visit.
