The BJP is preparing a West Bengal-style campaign for Punjab, openly targeting Aam Aadmi Party and Congress strongholds instead of staying within its traditional political comfort zone. Its “three C” attack, crime, corruption and chitta, is being pushed alongside a search for strong local candidates. The bigger pitch is clear: convince Punjab that the BJP is not just another opposition party but a serious contender for the Government. But after years of being a much smaller player in Punjab’s Assembly politics, can BJP actually break the strongholds of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress or is the “Bengal model” easier to announce than to repeat in Punjab ?

BJP’s Punjab campaign is increasingly being led from the national stage, with Union ministers and senior central leaders taking the spotlight in major campaigns. At the same time, several Punjab BJP leaders appear to have a much smaller public role in these campaigns. As the party prepares for 2027, is there a risk that its state leaders remain overshadowed by the national leadership, and will voters remember the Punjab faces when it is time to ask who actually led the campaign on the ground ?
