With former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s Rajya Sabha term ending in June and the JD(S) lacking the numbers for his re-election, questions are rising about the future of a leader who has remained politically relevant for over six decades. As his current parliamentary tenure comes to a close, the larger issue is whether this marks a transition in leadership or another strategic comeback by a veteran known for political survival. Is this the beginning of a legacy phase for H.D. Deve Gowda or will the seasoned leader once again find a way to stay active in national and Karnataka politics ?

At present, Priyanka Gandhi is the AICC general secretary but does not hold charge of any state or specific organisational responsibility. Yet, with elections approaching, she is expected to campaign widely, manage crises, shape messaging and act as a key political face for the party. As expectations rise even before the polls, the larger question is about role clarity within the Congress leadership. With elections still ahead, should the Congress formally define Priyanka Gandhi’s organisational role or is keeping her position flexible part of the party’s internal power balance with the top leadership ?
