From Congress in 2012 (Balachaur candidate), to AAP in 2017, a brief stop with the Akali Dal in 2019, and finally the BJP in 2022, Rajwinder Singh Lucky has covered almost every political camp in Punjab. Now BJP’s district president in Nawanshahr, he finds himself in a seat where the BJP hasn’t even contested the last Assembly elections.

Sheetal Angural’s political journey has come full circle, from BJP to AAP, winning Jalandhar West in 2022, then quitting AAP to rejoin BJP in 2024, only to lose the 2024 bypoll badly. His resignation was accepted under the anti-defection law, his attempt to withdraw it was rejected, and the seat slipped away to another turncoat, Mohinder Bhagat, who switched from BJP to AAP. In a constituency shaken by party-hopping and personal rivalries, Angural’s switch became the centre of the contest rather than governance.
