Talk of a possible reunion between the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP is gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 Punjab elections. Amit Shah’s repeated references to an NDA Government in Punjab and Sukhbir Singh Badal’s openness to alliances have fuelled speculation. But the two parties parted ways in 2020 over the three farm laws, following massive farmers’ protests. With BKU Qadian now extending support to the Shiromani Akali Dal, a possible reunion raises an important question. If the Shiromani Akali Dal joins hands with the BJP again, how will it address the farmers’ anger that led to their split in 2020 ?
