In the 2024 Jalandhar West bypoll, Mohinder Bhagat delivered a clear win for AAP with 55,246 votes (58.39%), after a sharp political turn. He had contested the 2022 Assembly election on a BJP ticket, but later switched to AAP and is now Punjab’s Horticulture Minister. The move was especially notable because his father, Chuni Lal Bhagat, a three-time MLA and former BJP minister, was reportedly unhappy with his son joining AAP. So as 2027 comes closer, is Mohinder Bhagat’s rise more about his own growing connect with voters or proof that timing, party momentum, and a famous political surname matter more than party loyalty in today’s Punjab politics ?
