Dr. Subhash Sharma, a long-time RSS insider and BJP state vice-president, was fielded from Anandpur Sahib in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, marking a rare move by the party to trust a core Sangh face in Punjab after years. Despite his strong organizational background and clean image, he could not convert the opportunity into a win. He has also been active at the ground level, including being made in-charge of Dera Bassi, showing the party’s continued trust in him. With BJP trying to reset its strategy in Punjab and 2027 approaching, the question now is whether leaders like him will be pushed to the front, or if electoral winnability will again take priority over ideological loyalty. After the 2024 setback, will BJP back Dr. Subhash Sharma as a core Sangh face for the 2027 Assembly elections, or will the party once again look for a more electorally tested candidate ?
