Sanjiv Khanna, BJP’s candidate in Dera Bassi, got a modest share of votes in 2022, as AAP surged ahead and Akali Dal’s hold weakened. With BJP being a smaller player here historically,the big question for 2027 is, can Khanna and BJP increase their presence, or will Dera Bassi remain dominated by AAP and Congress rivals?

With BJP leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand that Adampur Airport be renamed after Guru Ravidas Maharaj, BJP is clearly trying to woo voters in a reserved constituency where it hasn’t even fielded a strong candidate for years. But the real question remains: Will symbolic gestures, renaming proposals, and spiritual outreach finally help BJP gain momentum in Adampur, a seat long dominated by Congress and Akali Dal. Is the party still oblivious about the the real political fight on ground ?

Jagbir Singh Brar has moved through almost every major political party in Punjab, starting from SAD, then joining PPP, then shifting to Congress, later returning to SAD, then switching to AAP, and finally landing in the BJP, making it his fifth party in 14 years. He first won Jalandhar Cantt in 2007 on SAD ticket, and later contested Nakodar as the INC candidate in 2017, but lost. In 2022, he fought from Jalandhar Cantt on SAD ticket again, but lost again. In 2024, he joined BJP that added another twist to political journey. With the 2027 election coming closer, will the BJP actually trust Jagbir Singh Brar as its face from Nakodar, or will his long list of party switches make the party think twice ?
